Pushing Boundaries

On 10 June 2025 Professor Beth Perry participated in the Pushing Boundaries Conference hosted by the Young Foundation with UKRI at The British Library.

The aim of the conference was to bring together pioneers who are transforming research and innovation through community-driven approaches.  

The conference agenda and activities was designed in line with The Young Foundation’s , created by their accountability group of community researchers, citizen scientists and peer researchers.

Beth participated in an afternoon panel “Driving change across sectors†to explore how collective action can support community-driven R&I. The session brought together people working to break down barriers and foster enabling conditions for community-driven R&I across different institutions and sectors.  The session was chaired by , Interim Co-Director of Research, The Young Foundation . The panellists included:

  • , co-lead of Research England-funded Co-Pro Futures Inquiry and Director of the Urban Institute at University of Sheffield
  • , Head of Systems Change and Innovation at West Midlands Combined Authority
  • Denize Ledeatte, Director of National Windrush Museum

Beth spoke about the Co-Pro Futures - a two-year project (2024-2026) which aims to develop an action plan for the UK higher education sector to better support co-produced and participatory research. It is funded by Research England Participatory Research Funds at the Universities of Liverpool, Manchester and Sheffield.
