Professor Andrew Baker and Emeritus Professor Richard Murphy of the University of Sheffield have created a new Tax Transparency Video Series with the International Budget Partnership. The series is a comprehensive 32-video course explaining why tax transparency matters for governments, citizens, and society.

The series is informed by a view that better understandings of tax system performance can lead to more revenue, better public services, increased accountability, and stronger democratic institutions. The series explores the vital role tax plays beyond just raising revenue – from economic justice to social inclusion.

Andrew said, â€œThe video series is based on a simple equation. Where tax transparency is cultivated and targeted in strategic ways and where information is plentiful and accessible, then public faith in the tax system as a public good and willingness to pay tax is likely to grow. This in turn can help to produce a more vibrant, active and informed civic culture around tax decision making, better policy decisions, a better, fairer tax system and ultimately more inclusive economies and public services.â€

The Tax Transparency series is devised for policymakers, civil society advocates, and anyone who wants to understand how transparent tax systems benefit everyone. The course material is based on the GIFT  and the seminal publication, .
