Bo works on analytic metaphysics, especially on the metaphysics of states of affairs and their constituents: bare particulars and universals. At the University of Sheffield, he’s currently trying to defend his view of bare particulars in discussions with Eric Olson and Niall Connolly. Occasionally, he also forays into areas with a lot of applied value theory, e.g. environmental philosophy.

Bo has a long-standing interest in the education of Chinese university students and taught in Tianjin (2011–2012) and Shanghai (2012–2019).
